Best hotel for first-time visitors to Wildwood?

We've never been to Wildwood before — family of 4, kids are 8 and 11. Looking for somewhere central that has a pool and is within walking distance of the boardwalk. Budget is around $200/night in late July. Any recs?

July is peak season so $200/night can be tight for a good place. I'd look 2-3 weeks out and check Hotels.com — rates drop fast when inventory opens up. Also consider North Wildwood, it's walkable to the boardwalk and usually a bit cheaper.

Pacific Ave runs parallel to the boardwalk — anything within a block of that and you're golden. Kids that age love the boardwalk rides and the beach is free. Can't go wrong.

Wildwood Crest is great for families — quieter beach, still close to the boardwalk. The hotels on the Crest tend to have bigger pools and are less hectic than the strip. I'd look at anything on Atlantic Ave within a few blocks of the boardwalk ferry.
