Is the Wildwood boardwalk walkable from most hotels?

Don't sleep on the tram car — it runs the entire 2-mile length of the boardwalk. Even if you're 20 mins from the south end, you can tram to anywhere in minutes. Best $3 you'll spend.

If you stay in Wildwood proper or North Wildwood, most hotels are within walking distance of the boardwalk — 5-15 mins on foot. Wildwood Crest is further south, so you'd drive or take the tram car. I'd stay in Wildwood or North Wildwood for maximum walkability.
