Everyone says shoulder season is underrated. Is the boardwalk and beach still worth it outside summer?

One thing to check: some smaller hotels only open Memorial Day and close after Labor Day. Verify that your specific hotel is open for shoulder season before booking.

September is genuinely the best month in Wildwood. Water temp is warmest of the year (it peaks in September, not August). Boardwalk is open, restaurants are less packed, and hotel rates drop 30-50%. I've converted everyone I know to the September camp.

Late May after Memorial Day is great too. The boardwalk just opened, everyone's excited, and the crowds are manageable. Water is cooler for swimming but the beach is perfect for walking and hanging. Rates are often 40% lower than July.
